How to Read the Animated Forecast Map
- The top line is the forecast date of issue in YYYYMMDD format, followed by the time the forecast was issued (tHHz). "z" stands for "zulu" or GMT time. For Indonesia, add 7 hours to get real time.
- The next field "HHHh forecast" is the number of hours from the time the forecast was issued. It will run from 0 to 180 hours (7.5 days) in 3 hour increments
- The "valid" field shows the actual date and time the forecast is currently showing (don't forget to add 7 hours)
- Red arrows show average wave direction. Black arrows show wind direction. Barbs on the wind arrows indicate wind speed. One half barb represents 5 knots and a full barb is 10 knots. Wave heights are color coded in meters (multiply by 3.3 to get wave height in feet)
- If your connection is slow, the first run may be jumpy but it should animate smoothly on subsequent runs.
- To restart the animation, I.E users hit your refresh button, other browsers hit Ctrl-Shift-R on your keyboard.
- Alternatively, right click on the map and save to your computer to view at your leisure.
